Should Single People Wear a Ring on Their Left-hand Ring Finger?
Should the left ring finger be off limits from wearing a ring if you are looking to date to be married?
The left-hand ring finger is traditionally reserved for the engagement ring and the wedding band. So if you are single and interested in dating, courting, or getting married now or in the future should you keep that finger clear from a ring, so you don't send off the wrong impression to a potential mate that you are married? This is a reoccurring conversation between my mom and me, because she is always slipping a ring on that finger, and she is single and would like to get married one day. The conversation usually goes something like this:
Me: Why do you have a ring on that finger?
Mom: This is my birthstone ring. (Depending on which ring she is wearing that day. "This is my fashion ring" or " this is my costume ring").
Me: It doesn't matter what kind of ring it is. If a man sees it on the left-hand ring finger, he is going to assume you are married. A man is not thinking to himself (at least to my knowledge) "Oh. that's a birthstone or a fashion ring so she is single."
Mom: Well, men approach women whether they have a ring on that finger or not.
Me: Well, those type of men who do approach and see a ring on that finger are not the type of men that are meant to be your husband.
Mom: (Silence.)
I have come to realize her silence sometimes means agreement with me. Literally some version of this conversation goes on every time I see a ring on her left-hand ring finger. You may be thinking she doesn't want to be married that bad. Am I right? Well, if you aren't thinking it, I'm thinking it for you. lol. I just think it is self-sabotaging when a nonmarried person who wants to be married wears a ring on the left-hand ring finger. On the flip side. I want to be married and I don't wear a ring on that finger at all. Matter of fact, at one time I went without wearing any rings on all my fingers so there would be no confusion. There was radio silence from potential husbands. No one was approaching me so now I'm back to wearing my rings, but still not on my wedding ring finger.
Ok, so, I have heard of people wearing purity rings on their wedding ring finger. I think I first heard of wearing purity rings when some celebrities started doing it like the Jonas brothers, Selena Gomez, and Miley Cyrus, etc. A purity ring is supposed to symbolize a promise for the person wearing it to abstain from sex until marriage. My thoughts on a purity ring are that it is usually worn by teenagers to young adults who are generally not looking for marriage at that moment, or maybe they are I don't know, but they are usually surrounded by others with the same thoughts and convictions. In furtherance, they usually find companionships in their religious organization, religious school, group of friends, or friends of friends who are in their group. I have heard someone say, I wish I could remember who, but I think it was on a YouTube video, that you can wear a purity ring on the wedding finger and if the person is the person God meant for you then it will still happen. You will still get together. I completely agree with this. If God meant for you to be with someone then it definitely will happen, but why chance it or why cause confusion for someone? Did God tell you to wear that purity ring? If the man is a man of God, it can be somewhat discouraging to spot that ring on a women's wedding ring finger. He could question himself if he really heard from God to approach you after seeing the ring. He could think that it is meant to be but not right now, because you are taken after spotting the ring. The same could go if the man is wearing a purity ring. Personally, I think the purity ring is a good concept if you are young, and not looking to marry. But when you get up in age and starting to think about marriage, I think you should reconsider not wearing any kind of ring on the wedding ring finger. I think you should keep the same mindset of what the purity ring represents but ditch the ring. Anyway, it is no big deal you still have nine more fingers to choose from. What do you think?
