Self-Made: How To Get Favor That Includes an Inheritance, Opportunity, and Peace?
No one is truly self-made we have to receive some kind of favor or be chosen for an opportunity in some way, but we are so intrigued with who is or isn't self-made or who got their riches starting from the other side of the tracks or who was born with a leg up because their parents or a close relative or friend gave them an advantage. Like when Rhianna was announced as the youngest self-made billionaire Kylie Jenner name got brought into the conversation because she had previously been given the title by Forbes, but, according to Forbes, the title was taken away due to her business being smaller than the Kardashian/Jenner family led on. But those who didn’t know about the stripped title asked, what about Kylie being the youngest billionaire? And the debate continued from when she was first given the title that she couldn’t be considered a self-made billionaire, even if she was a billionaire, because Kylie isn't self-made because she comes from a rich and famous family. In addition, if you remember, Kim Kardashian made what some people called an insensitive comment in a Variety magazine interview when asked, “what advice would you give businesswomen?” Kim responded, “I have the best advice for women in business. Get your bleep, bleep up and work. It seems like nobody wants to work these days.” This comment threw some people up in a frenzy, because she had an advantage coming from a successful family. Her father was a prestigious attorney with connections in the industry, and people felt like all she had to do was utilize those built in connections compared to someone without her advantages who would have to do a lot more work. People on social media contended things like, she has no idea what hard work really is because she came from money.
People's arguments were valid; however, being able to create a name and generational wealth is the goal for many people. We see some people in the entertainment industry or trying to get in the industry not wanting to use their relatives' name, which is commendable because they want to make it on their own, but some of those people are rejecting their blessing, because they were left a legacy or given a legacy that their loved ones intentionally worked hard for them to use. Some people are driven to work hard and build a name so they can give their kids a better life than they had, and an inheritance to make life easier for their kids and the people that come or came behind them. In Proverbs 13:22 it states, “A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children…”
I was reading Live Wire: Long-Winded Short Stories by Kelly Ripa, and Kelly was telling the stories of her children going to college and how all of them were pursuing careers in the entertainment industry: Her oldest son, Michael, is a producer, writer and actor, her middle child and only daughter, Lola, is a singer, and her youngest son, Joaquin, is into wrestling and acting. She joked that all of them were pursuing careers that they weren't going to make money. I took it as though many people who are trying to be in entertainment it is hard to break into and you have to stay broke for a while until you get your big break. But we all know she got her kids in more ways than one. They are free to pursue their dreams because financially they are blessed to have parents that have the means to support their dreams and in addition, they have parents that know people that will get their foot through the door and give them the advice they need. And there is this tv talk show called Live with Kelly and Mark for publicity whenever they need it.
I know it may seem unfair for some of us but when you are born again and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior you become a child of God. You gain a spiritual Father with an established name and unlimited connections, resources, and an inheritance for all of us that believe in Him. If we surrender to His will, we receive His favor, and He will give what He has promised us in His word. He knows how to bring the right opportunities and people to help us. And we all have access to these advantages if we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior and surrender to Him.
Our Father in heaven wants to give us advantages in life because we are His children. One of the advantages Jesus spoke of in John 14:27 is peace, which states, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." To me this is the ultimate advantage, and gift. Although some may think they want fame and riches, the truth is knowing and having a relationship with God and receiving His peace is the ultimate success in life. You can have all the fame and riches in the world but if you don’t have the peace of Christ, you don’t have anything. Nor can your fame and riches buy you peace. Riches can buy temporary happiness or something to camouflage your pain with, but you can’t buy true peace.
